Winter is the season of hibernation. There is no better time to sit inside with a nice cup of hot chocolate (or glass of red) and just relax.

The majority of your time this season will be spent in the sanctity of your nice, warm home, but there’s only so much you can do in your house, right? Now is the perfect time to try out something new in your Australian winter wonderland.

Re-decorate

With most of your time spent in your home staying warm, it might be time to consider a new look.

From moving furniture to hanging up artwork to going out and getting new throw pillows, redecorating your home can boost liveliness. It’s also a fantastic time to stock up on some warm, cuddly throw rugs!

Another welcome addition to your home could be adding more greenery to your living room area. Plants can provide a much-needed breath of fresh air to both your lungs and your décor.

Learn To Cook Something New

Nothing warms you up like eating a warm, delicious winter meal, and it’s even better when you have learnt to prepare it yourself. Winter is a terrific time to dust off the cookbook and start trying out new recipes. After all, how good does a pasta bake sound after a long day in the cold? Maybe add in a little pinch of chilli as well to really warm you up.

There is also plenty of recipes that you can find online with a simple Google search, with many in-depth guides to creating that ideal meal that is sure to delight the taste buds and warm your belly. We’ve put together a few of our favourite, easy winter recipes if you want to take a look at the MyConnect Cookbook.

Develop a hobby

Winter can create a lot of downtimes, like other outside activities you’re used to might not happen as frequently. With this extra time, consider it a chance to hone your skills and develop a new hobby.

There are plenty of easy online classes that can assist in what you want to learn, ranging from language classes to knitting, to numerous DIY tutorials.

Movie Nights (or Days!)

This list really wouldn’t be complete without the ultimate stay-inside activity… movies! We recommend settling in with a bunch of snacks, maybe a couple of friends or your significant other and setting yourself up for a movie marathon.

A few of our favourites include:

  • The entire Harry Potter series (1,179 minutes)
  • Every title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (5,567 minutes)
  • ALL of the Star Wars films (1,496 minutes) or if you want to get your heart racing,
  • All of the Saw films for a real fright! (760 minutes)

Alternatively, binge-watching an entire series on Netflix is a great pass-time and although some people do that regularly (I know I do), that is another great winter activity.

Take time to relax

Now is a time to relax inside your home and do what you want to do! It’s time to finally sit down and read that book that you’ve been putting off for a rainy day. Maybe invite some friends over, set up a delicious cheeseboard and open up a great bottle of red wine. In fact, we’ve got your wine order covered… how about a $100 voucher from our pals at NakedWines?

Settle in and enjoy winter, it’s the perfect time to just take it slow, reset and focus on doing what makes you happy!

Organise your utilities in just 8 minutes!
